Next, Pick any other oil or filter brand, then search that competitor's oil or filtration website for test data that supports their claims and catchy marketing slogans. 

Notice how their data is irrelevant, skimpy, incomplete or invisible. 

Notice that they don't list both Efficiency AND the Micron test size (making it meaningless).  Or do they list a 4-ball Wear Test scar size, but not the actual ASTM test series?  (Perhaps a lower temperature and/or Kg force was applied to obtain a smaller wear-scar size?)

Notice that they provide little or no comparison test data which actually names the other oils tested: not naming actual products makes the data useless to you, and legally it's absolutely meaningless. 

Then, return here, and compare their data to the extensive AMSOIL performance data (from independent certified test labs) that we openly provide without fear. 

Sure, there are a few small-volume synthetic oil brands out there in the market. Frankly, most of them are quite excellent products in comparison to petroleum oils, which has naturally earned them a small but loyal following. BUT, how can you know that AMSOIL's test data is honest and true?
Great question. Easy answer. In addition to printed brochures and test-data reports, AMSOIL has often included the data right on product labels and packaging boxes listing the major brands by name on the charts (rather than "competitor A, B, C").  AMSOIL has been paying independent labs to do those tests for DECADES, and the published data is prosecutable as fraud and/or false-advertising if it's false, and AMSOIL's competition also does regular product testing.  Yet no-one has EVER challenged the accuracy of AMSOIL's data.  Instead, AMSOIL's competitors don't publish their test results, and don't discuss their performance compared to AMSOIL products...
even when Mobil 1 was asked for test data comparing Mobil 1 to Amsoil, they avoided it.

We think that's a revealing reality-check. Don't you ?

BUT, didn't AMSOIL invent these tests?  
No. (
LOL. So few companies publish any test data besides AMSOIL, yet AMSOIL publishes the data so openly, that some people assume AMSOIL invented ASTM tests.)

Where did these tests come from?
These tests are the lubrication industry's standard performance tests, which have been painstakingly developed over decades by the ASTM through the cooperation of the three governing engineering bodies, the ASTM (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the American Petroleum Institute (API).  The first two are worldwide engineering societies, and the third is mainly made up of engineers from the big international petroleum companies.  The API also offers oil manufacturers an optional system to have oil performance Certified by the ASTM tests to the minimum SAE requirements, but the tests are still performed by independent labs.   

The SAE is made up mainly of automotive/truck OEM engineers, so the Service Grades are intended to make sure that the OEMs can clearly state the minimum lubrication performance that's required for them to avoid warranty failures and/or angry customers.  

The tests themselves are used not only to determine if performance is adequate to meet the SAE Service Grades, but to measure that performance, and were devised and refined in order to get accurate indicators of lubricant performance in "real world" use.  They are the same ASTM tests that the API and other international companies use, and all ASTM tests have been "standardized" so that the measurements will be accurately duplicated anywhere in the world. So the measurement data from the ASTM tests are quite valuable in developing and identifying high performance. 

What about real performance in real vehicles?
That's what it's all about.  Imagine this real-life result:  you have a new 1999 Chevy Express van used for expedited delivery hauling of up to 3500 lb loads, and with 68,000 miles on it you change all the drivetrain lubes over to Amsoil and go to 25,000 mile oil changes and 150,000 mile transmission ATF fluid changes. Now imagine that you put 110,000 to 120,000 miles a year on it, troublefree until the engine quit at 930,000 miles, and after swapout of the barely-worn engine the original tranny is still going strong at over 1 million miles without overhaul.   Here's the 5.7L engine teardown report. That's real life performance.

How to tell a REAL synthetic from a petroleum "synthetic".




AMSOIL Lubricants Proven Best Synthetics !


AMSOIL is "The First in Synthetics" and also the first in quality, protection and performance. Every other oil company in the world was given the chance to object when AMSOIL applied for trademark rights to "The First in Synthetics", yet after 90 days of waiting, not a single one objected!

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Officials stated that by claiming that AMSOIL was the first historically, that AMSOIL was also insinuating to be the best (or #1/first) from a quality or performance standpoint. AMSOIL showed the government officials comparison documentation and test-data backing up the claim that AMSOIL was also the best.

After the government officials notified all other oil manufacturers that AMSOIL was claiming to be the best oil, not a single oil company objected! Not a peep from any of them! I can guarantee you that if any of these competitors and major oil companies had a product better than AMSOIL they would have objected.

In fact, Mr. A.J. Amatuzio, founder, President and CEO of AMSOIL states that he often hears other companies ad slogans stating that their products are the best. They are not.

Mobil 1 has run the tag line for their advertising "nothing outperforms Mobil 1". A.J. Amatuzio states that he knows a company that does make products that outperform Mobil 1: "And you know which company that is. Mobil makes a very good oil, but I am here to tell you that that it does not outperform AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils. They can come out with advertising buzz words to market their oils, but in the final analysis, buzz words don't add one thing to their products performance. The only reason that AMSOIL has continued to grow and prosper competing with large corporations like Mobil is that AMSOIL products have consistently performed better."

These are independent certified lab test results performed by an ASTM (American Society of Testing and Materials) accredited test laboratory.  Now, after reading these test results do you still believe Mobil's tag line "nothing outperforms Mobil 1"? The data certainly doesn't show that, and we can also guarantee you that if this published data was not 100% accurate that Mobil's attorneys would certainly be acting. 

In fact, Exxon-Mobil's official website devotes a complete webpage to a user's direct question and request for data, asking whether Mobil 1 or Amsoil is a better oil.  Apparently this question is so frequent that they published it on their own website with a dedicated page, and optimized that page for high "Amsoil" search traffic.  Yet their brief marketing answer completely avoids the question, links to a taxicab fleet video talking about how much better Mobil 1 is than regular petroleum oil, and gives no comparative data for Amsoil at all.  Seems like Exxon-Mobil wouldn't have avoided answering this important question, unless Amsoil's published data is true.

Logical conclusion: The test data is totally accurate, and Exxon-Mobil knows it.


3000 mile oil changes? 

Let's GET REAL, and stop stealing people's money!  How about a 25,000 mile or 35,000 mile oil change?  Now you're talking modern technology! 


The "3000 mile oil change" is just a myth to support a money-generating plan which has been proven to allow increased component wear rates and worse fuel economy when compared to a premium quality synthetic oil like AMSOIL. When things wear, they eventually have to be serviced and/or replaced, and that means you then have to buy a new vehicle or other piece of equipment more often. Did you know that average petroleum motor oils have a much lower shear strength than synthetic motor oils?

In a recent Lubricants World Magazine interview the president of Jiffy Lube International (owned by Penzoil-Quaker State), Marc Graham states that if they can get customers to shorten their drain intervals by 100 miles it would mean an additional $20 million in revenue for the company per year and if they can get consumers to do one more oil change per year it would mean $294 million for the oil change alone and $441 million in revenue when they include ancillary products and services that go along with the oil change. In fact, Graham openly admits that the bottom line is profits. The shorter the drain interval, the more money Jiffy Lube and Penzoil-Quaker State make. With statements like this it sure appears that they don't care about your vehicle and selling you a quality extended-drain-interval synthetic like AMSOIL. All they want is to see the same customer over and over again, as often as possible!

Isn't it about time you learned the truth??


Don't think that vehicle and equipment manufacturers and other oil companies don't know about AMSOIL.

They certainly do. Most have tested and analyzed it, and in fact, many automotive mechanical and lubrication engineers that we work with use it in their own vehicles!  Yet they still refuse to acknowledge to the public that AMSOIL Synthetics are superior to petroleum oils and any other brand of synthetic in every way, and can practically stop internal wear in it's tracks.  Get it?  They personally like the advantages of AMSOIL products, but they don't want to tell the public.  Well that may be typical corporate America, but it's not the Golden Rule.  I'm an automotive engineer, as many of us are, and we understand that many engineers in the automotive industry are afraid of professional backlash in their careers - and we know some have been relentlessly abused by their managers to make them examples for daring to take a stand.  We don't care - we're going to tell you the truth because we feel a moral obligation to tell you, and because you deserve to know the same facts that we know

What about racing?  In many racing segments, like CORR, Snocross, Champ Boat Offshore and Motocross, Amsoil-lubricated engines dominate. 

  • Erik Buell attributes his EBR Superbike success to AMSOIL, calling them "the best synthetic lubricants in the world", and adding that "crankshafts last the entire season and [wet] clutch plates last four or five race weekends, which is just crazy good". "AMSOIL has helped us solve problems with the engines... we're not only finding good oil, but really good research people. "Racing is research" is real." 

  • The 11-time World Champion Scott Douglas echos similar praise for AMSOIL's contributions to his pro 4x4 off-road wins, running AMSOIL engine oil, transmission fluid, and gear lube. "The dedication to the perfection of the product is what's really inviting as well because a lot of companies make products, but their marketing is the big thing; they don't focus as much on the products themselves, whereas at AMSOIL the dedication to the perfection of the product is number one, marketing second."

Here's a huge racing secret: We know of many major racers including NASCAR and Indy racing teams that use AMSOIL lubricants in their race cars - the oil sponsor's logo on the hood and quarter panels is NOT what is in their vehicle! The sponsor pays them to keep quiet (and legally requires it in their advertising or "sponsor" contract) so that you'll assume it's their oils used in the car, and the same oil YOU can buy... but they're NOT. Oil companies knowingly oversell petroleum oil, which wastes oil reserves and causes a major pollution problem.  If everyone used AMSOIL lubricants, oil usage and used-oil-dumping pollution would drop by an estimated 87%!

Over the years, petroleum oil standards and performance have improved significantly, and European auto manufacturers have gradually increased their recommended drain intervals. Today, many are double those currently recommended by the U.S. carmakers, even though many of the same motor oils are used in both markets.


More recently, U.S. manufacturers have also increased their drain recommendations.  But despite the fact that manufacturers are extending new car drain intervals, and despite GM's recent announcement that the average drain interval for customers using GM's OLS (Oil Life System) is 8,500 miles with standard petroleum oil, the major oil companies are still sticking to their 3,000 mile drain recommendations.  According to Automotive Editor, David McFaull, in a feature article he authored in a December issue of Lubes ‘n Greases magazine, the dramatic waste created by these unrealistic recommendations puts the oil companies in an ethical dilemma.

Due to its long-term threat, McFaull names nuclear waste as the top pollutant today. But he actually compares nuclear waste to dumped, untreated, used motor oil, saying that even though it doesn’t have to be buried for thousands of years, dumping used motor oil comes at a very high environmental pricee. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, improperly disposed used oil is the largest single source fouling our nation’s waters. A single quart can foul thousands of gallons of water, and up to 200 million gallons are dumped annually.

McFaull states, “While the nuclear power industry would not support the production of excess uranium fuel, it is not inconceivable that the U.S. oil industry would support, encourage, and skillfully promote excess gasoline engine oil usage, despite the harmful effects of its waste product on the environment.” He said that, in fact, considerable evidence supports this conclusion.

The McFaull article notes that AMSOIL INC is the only oil company making any attempt to promote the one single measure of quality that a consumer can understand.. That is increased drain intervals. In fact the other oil companies have worked against increasing drain intervals in the U.S., which means more oil is being made, sold and ultimately disposed of than is necessary. Therein lies the ethical problem they are faced with. Is it right to produce, promote & sell more of a product than is needed, knowing that it will result in increased pollution?

McFaull asks, “Do lube industry managers have an ethical duty to develop and reveal information on their product that could reduce the pollution burden, even though it might reduce the size of their market?”

These are good questions. As the quality of motor oils and the engines they’re used in herein the U.S. have improved, the drain recommendations have not increased to match the oil’s capabilities. A.J. Amatuzio started AMSOIL INC. with the express purpose of making motor oils that were of such high quality, they could totally outperform the oils of the day. The first oil AMSOIL made extended drain intervals to 25k miles or one year: that technology was available over thirty years ago!  Back then, the other oil companies were recommending 2,000 to 3,000 mile oil drains.

McFaull states, “(The API’s) stance treats consumers like ignorant yokels – ignores the high technical skills of the oil industry, the advances in engine design and material, the vast improvement in engine oil quality over the past decade, the impact of untreated oil flowing into the environment and common sense.”

How Does AMSOIL Compare
Against Other Major Oil Brand's Synthetics?


We've not found a single one that even comes close to providing the wear protection that AMSOIL synthetic oil does! Just look at the graphs on the back of AMSOIL's Series 2000 20W-50 Racing Oil or the Series 2000 0W-30 Severe Service Oil.

The 20W-50 Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic leaves a wear scar over 2 times that of the AMSOIL (0.440 mm for AMSOIL vs. 0.922 mm for Mobil 1)!

Same thing goes for Havoline Formula 3 (0.713), Valvoline Synthetic (0.741), Castrol Syntec (0.757), Quaker State (0.790, synthetic blend).

The Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic 0W-30 leaves a wear scar over 1.6 times that of the AMSOIL 0W-30 (0.373 for AMSOIL and 0.607 for Mobil 1)!

Mobil will not recommend or guarantee 25k mile/1-year drain intervals like AMSOIL 5W-30, 10W-30 or 10W-40 or 35k mile/1-year drain intervals like AMSOIL 0W-30 Severe Service Synthetic Motor Oil, and that is a fact. No-where on the Mobil bottle does it state 25,000 miles/1-year or 35,000 miles/1-year.


AMSOIL is proven to be the best by the standardized industry tests!  AMSOIL was, and still is, the "First in Synthetics". All other synthetic motor oils came later. This is a lubrication-industry fact that NO oil company will dispute.  {See Full ASTM test results against Mobil 1}

The bare truth is that up until about 10-15 years ago, these petroleum manufacturers never even offered a synthetic (except Mobil1). They were too busy trying to debunk the benefits of synthetics to the average consumer! Now, technology, competition and consumer demand has forced every major oil manufacturer to have a synthetic, so they are now claiming the same benefits that at one time they were trying to debunk. They claim their re-defined petroleum "synthetics" offer true synthetic performance.  Yet not a single one comes close to offering the protection and performance that AMSOIL does - and they don't want to. 

In fact, most new "synthetics" now on the market are merely Group III hydrocracked oils - the oil-drilling "version" of a synthetic.  For example, Castrol Syntec isn't even a 100% pure Group 4 synthetic!  That's right... read on........



Mobil accused Castrol of false advertising after Castrol reformulated its' synthetic by substituting other basestocks in place of its synthetic polyalphaolefins (PAO's). Castrol Syntec is now a hydrocracked oil, but still claims to be a "full synthetic".

That's right, Castrol replaced Syntec's PAO synthetic base stock with a hydroisomerized "Group III" petroleum base stock.

Hydrocracking, as it's called, is the highest level of petroleum refining. Syntec isn't even a true synthetic yet Castrol ended up winning the battle when the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus ruled that Castrol could still market its oil as "synthetic" despite their new formulation and huge new profit margin.

How can they do that?  Basically, the Big Oil companies advised the BBB that the legal definition of synthetics should be "expanded" to include Group III hydroprocessed petroleum oil. That's illegal in every country except the United States. But this high profile case was decided against consumers because synthetics are recognized as the market's best hope for growth in profit margins. Synthetic oil sales growth has outpaced petroleum oil sales by a wide margin and the gap continues to widen every year. Consumers were getting smarter and demanding the best for their vehicles, so the petroleum industry agreed on the classic "bait and switch" tactic by quietly redefining "synthetic oil"!  Although this deception is unethical, it's unfortunately legal, and quite profitable.
