Bypass filtration has always had immense benefits from dramatically reducing engine wear rates and extending or eliminating oil changes, but the latest advancements have made it even better.  In an effort to continually enhance the AMSOIL product line, new technologies are evaluated to provide the best products possible. Consequently, AMSOIL has developed new bypass filters from its revolutionary Ea line of nanofiber filtration products. AMSOIL EaBP Filters are ultra high efficiency bypass filters that also remove fine diesel soot. In fact, they're a remarkable technical weapon that allow fleet management to extend service intervals, lower maintenance costs, and extend capital equipment life at the same time.

AMSOIL EaBP Filters are superior to competitors and the previous AMSOIL BE Bypass Filters in several key areas:

Higher Efficiency Than All Competing Filters
These new AMSOIL EaBP Filters have an efficiency of 98.7 percent (Absolute Efficiency) at two microns, compared to the previous AMSOIL BE Filters’ 98.6 percent efficiency at three microns. At normal operating RPMs the EaBP Filter will filter all of the oil in a typical five quart sump in less than 10 minutes.

What about the FS-2500 "soot sucker" bypass filter?  Other than Amsoil's EaBP, it has the best published bypass filter rating we've seen, with Absolute Efficiency (98.7%) at 2.78 microns. So it's quite good, but the competing FS2500 doesn't filter as well as the EaBP, it doesn't have as much capacity, and it has only one filter size available.  Amsoil has three filter lengths, enabling you to tailor the filter size to the needs and the available installation space. 

Superior Construction
The superior construction of AMSOIL EaBP Filters provides better sealing and increased longevity along with superior corrosion resistance. AMSOIL EaBP Filters have a marine powder coated exterior. Their zinc-dichromate base plates increase rust protection, and they feature the same dimensions and threads as BE-90, BE-100 and BE-110, so they are compatible with existing AMSOIL bypass filter mounts. EaBP Filters have a nitrile HNBR gasket and an orange silicone anti-drain valve. The two stage pleated and layered cellulose/full synthetic media has an Absolute Efficiency rating of 98.7 percent at two microns.

Longer Lasting and Longer Drain Intervals
When used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil and an AMSOIL EaO or Donaldson Endurance™ filter which are recommended for 25,000 mile or 1 year filter changes, then the EaBP should be changed every other full-flow filter change up to 60,000 miles or 2 years. When used with other brands of motor oil or full-flow filters, the EaBP filter should be changed every other full-flow filter change. Three different filter lengths are offered (see below).  AMSOIL and DMT Technical engineers all recommend using oil analysis when extending oil drain intervals.

When it comes to extending oil drain intervals, the FS2500 claims to at least double drain intervals, but Amsoil synthetic oils are guaranteed by themselves for 15,000 mile severe commercial drain intervals, and 25,000 miles for normal service with standard filtration. When you combine Amsoil synthetic engine oil with an AMSOIL EaBP bypass oil filter system, typically you never change oil again. So the "soot sucker" is a good product, but it's  outclassed by the AMSOIL solution.

Our 2002 Sierra Duramax 2500HD has 77,000 miles and 4 years since it's last oil drain, when it was changed to AMSOIL's 5W-30 HDD Heavy Duty Diesel Oil with a BMK-17 (now the improved BMK-27) dual remote bypass kit. The oil sample analysis still looks great after changing the fourth full-flow filter and the second bypass filter.

Increased Oil Capacity
The increased fluid system capacity and filtration life provides improved oil cooling and ensures that equipment constantly runs on clean oil. Engine efficiency is increased and engine life is extended significantly.  An AMSOIL dual-remote bypass filter kit typically adds between 2.5 and 3 more quarts of oil to the normal engine capacity.

Soot Removal
AMSOIL has designed a new high-efficiency bypass filter element that is also a soot removal device. AMSOIL Ea Bypass Filters use a synthetic/cellulose sandwiched media. The inner layer of the element is composed of a highly efficient cellulose media covered with a full synthetic nanofiber media outer layer.

"We're impressed that these nanofiber filters remove 39 percent of soot contaminants less than one micron: nothing else we've seen can touch this level of performance.  Our testing has verified it. 

For example, my personal 2002 Duramax truck now has over 55,000 miles without an oil change using AMSOIL's EaBP bypass filter and EaO full-flow.  The 5W-30 (Amsoil HDD) oil color looks like it came out of a gasoline engine with 5,000 miles on the oil, and standard laboratory oil analysis can't measure the soot level: it just shows the soot as being below the measurement threshold of 1.0. 

That's just incredible. According to soot and wear particle studies conducted by Federal Mogul and GM, that translates into a wear rate reduction of way over 90% compared to OEM filter performance."

But actual performance is even better than the standard lab tests show because they are measuring only the EaBp bypass filter: soot removal efficiency increases approximately 10 to 14 percent when the EaBP Filter is used in conjunction with a standard full-flow filter, even higher in conjunction with Ea Oil Filters or Donaldson Endurance filters.

The Dangers of Soot

The combustion process of diesel engines creates soot. After fuel is injected, combustion occurs with elevated soot levels as a byproduct of the process, and the combustion particulates become trapped on the exposed oil film. The rings wipe the particulates into the oil and the fine particulates aggregate, increasing levels of soot in the oil.

Oil with dispersant additives will generally keep soot in the range of 0.002 to 0.5 microns in suspension; detergent additives prevent the build-up of sludge and act as an acid neutralizer, keeping soot in the range of 0.5 to 1.5 microns in suspension. These anti-wear additives work by providing a sacrificial chemical-to-chemical barrier. As the amount of soot suspended in the oil increases, the performance of these additives decreases.  These ranges of particle suspension reveal how important bypass filtration is - and the efficiency of that filtration - to providing the lowest diesel engine wear rates. Yes, wear rates.

Soot Causes Wear
As an oil’s soot dispersant additive level increases, wear reducing additives become less effective. This creates a direct linear correlation between wear and soot concentration; the higher the concentration of soot, the higher the level of wear. Today’s oil manufacturers are extending oil life by holding higher concentrations of contaminants, including soot, in suspension in the oil. They are also increasing fuel economy by reducing oil viscosity and oil film thickness. Therefore, even smaller sized contaminants are becoming critical in items in terms of creating wear. This further necessitates the use of bypass filtration, especially in diesel engines.

The AMSOIL Solution:

Three different installation options.

Bypass Option #1 - add a small by-pass filter to your present oil filtration system.
This is illustrated in the picture to the right.  Because the additional bypass filter is small and can be mounted anywhere there is a handy spot, this filter kit can be installed in even the smallest cars.  At one of our retail accounts that is a Volkswagen sales/service center, they have installed several of these in Jetta and Passat TDI's.

Bypass Option #2 - The AMSOIL Dual-Remote Oil Filtration System - Gives you Optimum OIL FILTRATION and Maximum SERVICE ACCESSIBILITY

The AMSOIL Dual Remote Oil Filtration System replaces the standard full-flow system with a combination full-flow/by-pass system using a remote mounting assembly.  This option is available in both a standard vehicle and a stainless marine version (USCG approved), which is also superb for outdoor applications such as remote pipeline pumping engines that run on natural gas.

The mount holds an AMSOIL Full Flow Oil Filter AND an AMSOIL Spin-On By-Pass Filter; it takes oil from the engine and returns it without the use of multiple fittings or extra return holes in the oil pan or valve cover. The mount and filters are installed in any accessible area of the engine compartment, or under the vehicle - such as next to a truck's frame rail.

A specially-manufactured, spin-on adaptor is simply screwed onto the engine block's filter nipple, replacing the old full-flow filter. In-and-out ports connect this adapter to the remote mount with two flexible hydraulic oil lines.

Bypass Option #3
   - an installation option that uses a single or dual bypass filter, and sends the return oil back into the engine through your oil filter cap. 

This can be done in two ways: 
Installing a fitting in your existing cap (as in diagram on the right) will work for nearly any vehicle. 
Or for some vehicles including turbo diesel pickup trucks and vans, a billet aluminum cap is available to replace your engine's standard oil filler cap.
